TasteSpotting

Are you obsessed with Pinterest? Do you love trying new recipes? Well here is your next obsession. TasteSpotting. It's similar to Pinterest, in that it's a library of pictures that link to blogs and websites. But it's all about food and it's a more elite crowd of curators. Foodies have to submit photos to be accepted onto the site. So for most of us, it's a pretty search engine for anything pertaining to food. Here is what the homepage looks like right now:

And here are some yummy ideas:

Now you can waste your day TasteSpotting AND Pinning! Your welcome. Happy Leap Day!

Gender Reveal Cakes

Sonograms are SO five minutes ago. A gender reveal party is the new way to find out the sex of your baby! You have the doctor write the gender and put it in an envelope for the cake artist's eyes only. Then get all of your close friends and family together to find out the gender together as you cut into the cake!

Au Naturel

This wedding season is all about going au naturel.  No, I'm not talking about naked brides. Get your mind out of the gutter! I'm talking about the natural beauty of buttercream. There are so many ways to use buttercream to match the current trends, and this year is no exception. A lot of brides are having weddings in unique outdoor venues like barns, lakes or a friend's ranch (can you tell we're from TX??). So a perfectly, flawlessly smooth fondant cake wouldn't fit in there like it would in a traditional wedding. This is where textured buttercream cakes take the stage. Add some edible or fresh flowers and it's the perfect compliment to your tree stump cake stand and mason jars of sweet tea.

Handmade V-Day

Valentine's Day is coming up quickly. What's your plan? Will you go to Walmart on the 13th and pick up some Lightning McQueen cards, scribble your kid's name in the "from" blank and send them on their way? OR will you be the game-changer? There is still time to be a little crafty and make your V-Day cards stand out. Do it. Here is some inspiration from moms who had a plan.

{Author's note: Your sweetheart would probably LOVE a handmade gift too}

How did they do that?! Calm down. Here you go:

Succulents

When you hear about a succulent cake, you think of a rich, moist, deliciously memorable cake, right? Wrong. Well, right...but also wrong. Succulent flowers are plump little desert flowers with a muted color scheme that makes them so unique. They are showing up in lots of weddings, so they're showing up on lots of cakes. They go so seamlessly with streamlined fondant cakes, and just as well with imperfectly textured buttercream. Whether you use an edible replica or the real thing, succulents are a great way to top off a cake.
