BROOCHES

Brooches are such timeless accessories for brides. They can be passed down for generations and give bride after bride a fashionable sparkle. You can't say that about many hand-me-downs! Well now the timeless beauty of a brooch is making it's mark on cakes. Specifically, wedding cakes. The cake almost becomes the wedding dress of the reception. The tiers are often plain white, so ribbons, textures and brooches are what make it beautiful. Here are some wedding cakes where the brooch steals the show.

Eric and Mindy's Wedding!

We had the privilege of making the wedding and grooms cakes for my friends, Eric and Mindy Niehaus who met at my (Ally's) house a few years ago at our small group from church!  I'm so excited that they finally tied the knot!  Mindy's style is very vintage chic, so her wedding was super cute and fit her style perfectly!

The wedding was at the Chapel in Chestnut Square in Downtown McKinney.

Tee hee hee
The reception was at this cute little house right next to the Chapel.

Amanda made Eric's grooms cake, but made sure everyone knew she didn't support the Longhorns!
They kept it clean.  Too bad there wasn't any cake in the face!

If yall want to see more pics of the wedding (you totally should!), look at this website from Stacie Tatum Photography

Bear with me...I'm new to the whole blogging thing.  I'm still learning the ropes!

SAVORY CUPCAKES

I love Cupcake Wars on Food Network. I love the huge number of puns in every episode. I love the subtitles when Florian Bellanger gets mad. I love the contestants who start kitchen fires. And finally, I love the ridiculous ingredients they are given to make cupcakes. Savory cupcakes, however, are more than just an interesting twist for a TV show. A lot of bakeries are cashing in on "weird" flavors with the crowd that just wants to try  them. After having just visited the Texas State Fair, I'm convinced that people are willing to try  almost any food. (I'm no exception. See also my fb status with the embarrassingly long list of what my family ate at the fair.) Savory flavors are fun to play with in your own kitchen, so here are some recipes straight from Cupcake Wars winners.

Not too weird, sounds yummy:

Different, but probably pretty good:

And here's the kicker:
